The Genre

As you know Absolute Obsession was my debut novel and you know that I've been working on the sequels to it, and that novel branded me a Romance writer (which is fine by me), however how often does a writer jump over to a completely different genre?

I don't know why, but for some reason I was thinking about that. Nathanael and Saydi are a romance novel (keeping  fingers & toes crossed, when I submit the query to Wings, they want to see the whole thing), but with a surprisingly different audience base, it would be categorized as a young adult, super natural romance -- yup you heard right, they came from the complete opposite side of the spectrum.  So I wonder... How often do writers stray from their "genre"? Is it common or is it a no, no? This I don't know, all I know is, for me, whichever characters enter the stage that are loud enough for me to hear them, their story will be told,  regardless of their background or what their story will be branded.

Have a great day.
